I have changed what I want my topic to focus on since I posted it on the Salon. I found a couple of images that I really like that show the mix of multiple generations. I want the images to tell a story of how people growing up together, still turn out differently because of the older generations that they are also growing up around.
The Idea: I was going through my own pictures and found a bunch that show all the different age groups in my family. They show how everyone interacts with one another and how the different ages get along.
Where: The pictures have been taken in multiple places around New Jersey. They are on my computer.
The Critics: Susan Sontag talked about collecting photographers and how that tied into the world; it is almost as if each photograph represents a piece of our world. "Photographs, which fiddle with the scale of the world, themselves get reduced, blown up, cropped, retouched, doctored, tricked out. They age, plagued by the usual ills of paper objects; they disappear; they become valuable, and get bought and sold; they are reproduced. Photographs, which package the world, seem to invite packaging. They are stuck in albums, framed and set on table, tacked on walls, projected as slides. Newspapers and magazines feature them; cops alphabetize them; museums exhibit them; publishers compile them."
Reflection: For my story that I want to make from my images, this concept applies. Sontag takes photographs and gives them more control than I ever would have thought to. But I like her ideas and think that it definitely applies to say that the images I am using create a sort of model of the world that they came from.
Prezi: My Prezi is currently just a collection of the photographs that I have taken from my computer. I still need to create the path that will tell the story; I just haven't decided on how I want to do that yet. I also want to look up images on Google to add into my collection.
What's Next: I want to look up more images through Google that show the relationship between multiple generations. I want to have more perspectives, rather than just my own family.
My Point: The point of this story is to show that children are easy to imprint on and that they pick up traits (etc) from the people whom they grow up around. While they are constantly picking up knowledge and behaviors from their peers, they also learn from other people. Older cousins or siblings can be great role models without being "an adult," or someone too old for children to relate to. They may also be influenced by grandparents, aunts, uncles, and parents. However, I have stayed away from the parent importance because I want to show the influence that others have on children.
